I am traveling to Turkey and wonder if there is anything I need to be concerned with regarding
the 220V they use.
I have heard that plugging the camera in or charging the batteries in certain non-compatible outlets can damage the camera.

I live in Australia (240V/50Hz) and charge the batteries and plug direct into NTSC HVX with the american power pack without issue. The power pack should say something like 110~220V/50~60Hz on it. Most power packs are universal these days correcting any power source into what it needs. Then all you need is a plug converter. If you're really worried just use the battery.
