Has nothing to do with 4k editing. How many people edit 4k? I mean really? How many people edit? My point is that Apple has chosen to deliver products to the mass, be it creatives or grandmas. Only 1% of what we watch visually might be shot 4K. Ya know, movies. ANd nearly 50% of that is shot on Alexa. The rest is TV and web. Apple is a business, and maybe they just don't see a need for catering to a SMALL group of RED 4k guys and gals. So be it. Get an HP. There ya go. HP, probably the worst of PCs you could go with.
LA is bad for a group think? I can "think" of at least 50 square miles dedicated to the motion picture industry.

Apple doesn't need RED. In what way would creating a powerhouse machine like that turn a profit?
Its a small user base and a great expense.

+1. Alexa files edit nicely on my laptop. Alexa looks better anyway. Plus, they work.

It would not surprise me at all if Apple kill off the whole mac pro line.

They might keep iMacs around because they are great for schools but they would get cut eventually too.

    Smaller lighter faster.

Red just couldn't wait to sell more $6k rocket cards. Dustylense said it all. Alexa on a laptop. Better image and dependable.

    Please,

4k R3D on a laptop. Everyone's doing it nowadays. Do we have to whip it out and measure 'em every time RED is brought up?

'Cause if so my RED "just works" too. So does my Panasonic, so does my Canon, so do the Alexas I've worked with, so do the Sony's. Show me someone tied to a product be it a Mac or Alexa or RED or PC so much so that they go out of their way to slander another and I'll show you someone who probably can't see the forest for the trees. We make images and tell stories. Lets critique our work with this much fervor and we'll all have little golden statues.

To me, the dumb part of Apple forgetting about the pros is the long-run impact on its brand image. Once upon a time, Apple was cool because cool artists used their computers (designers, photographers, videographers, etc). Some of those people need lots of computing power, and will have to switch to Windows if Apple doesn't give them what they need. They don't want to, but they may have to. And while it's also true that nowadays most of those cool artists will be just as good with an iMac or a MBP, you also have to factor in that if one step in your employer's workflow has to be Windows, they might decide to go all-Windows. If that happens, art schools will go next. If they lose the "cool people" branding, Apple will only have the "my gadget is cool" effect, and they're in for a fight with the Koreans for that one too...

And also: Apple has enemies that may try to force them those cool artists over to Windows. I'm stunned that Adobe is not charging twice as much for CS on Mac than on Windows. Remember the Flash row with Adobe? Plus if you use a Mac you're already signaling that you don't care about price all that much.

OK, guys, there doesn't need to be another Mac v. PC thread, and there's a place -- REDuser -- to discuss all things RED.
