Dirtying up a collectable car/truck

I've secured a restored WW2 truck for my Warfest entry, but it looks very clean and new. I need to dirty it up, mud, dust, etc. Any recommendations on how to do this without scratching and damaging the vehicle.

All I can say is test - I think we used something 'water removable' and actually we had a few scary moments trying to return the van to absolute pristine show condition.. https://vimeo.com/29905750
