    D5100 video settings for theater

    Hi,

I've a D5100 and my daughter will be having a show within a theater. She will be on stage, about 10m from me, with some lights on stage but none on the public.
What should be the correct settings on the machine to shoot video?
I have a 18-55 and a 55-200 lens. Probably I'll only be able to choose the lens once I'm on my place by using both and checking the one with the best view.

    Thanks in advance,
    Pedro

You can only set the aperture on the D5100, as the camera sets the shutter speed and ISO for you. If you have a tripod or support I would go for the 55-200mm. But if hand holding think the 18-55mm might be better. Also when you first set up the camera I would lock the exposure using the AE lock button so the exposure remains fairly constant. I would set an aperture of about F5.6 or F8 if the light levels in the theatre allow it. Don't forget to set the aperture on the lens before you go into live view and put the camera on either manual or aperture priority mode. HTH.

    cheers

    Thanks...
My 18-55 is the GII and not VR like the 55-200.
But I made some test shooting and didn't notice any "shake" like in photos (my hands really shake a lot...).
I just went to the place and I probably won't be able to use the 55-200... my seat is to close to the stage.
    Thanks once again,
    Pedro
