I have searched and read and found some conflicting info.
I shoot P2. I dump the cards (via shot put pro) to 2 separate drives for safety. Then I ingest what I need into FCP. No problem with any of this process. However, I have footage (clips) that I don't really need to save. Is it possible and safe to delete files that I have downloaded from the cards and still be able to use the other files from those cards without a problem. I looked into P2 viewer. But it isn't compatible with my macbook pro (running 10.6.8).

Are you referring to the mxf files in the video folder of the card?

My understanding is that if you delete any of those from the folder on your HDD, then you won't be able to use the remaining ones from that folder.

The same with mounting the card on the desktop and deleting directly from the card.

Yep. Those would be the ones. I also would like to delete audio files for timelapse footage (but I know they don't take up that much space anyway). I tried to remove a few files and the others seemed not to work any longer. That's when I started researching. It seems like Barry wrote you can delete files with P2 Viewer - but its not Mac friendly. Thanks David.

P2 Viewer can easily do that. P2 Viewer is not available separately on the Mac, it's available as part of P2CMS. So install P2CMS, and then use the P2 Viewer inside it to delete clips off your hard drive.

However, do not do a Finder delete.

Use the the P2CMS as Barry has suggested, not a Finder delete.

Great. So if I delete a clip using this method, all of the other clips from that folder should be perfectly fine? Sounds pretty simple. Can you delete just audio or it is a complete package kind of thing?
