Going from a Canon GL2 and 7D to the EX1R. Anyone have any good tips or tricks or stuff they wish they had known?

    Should I update from 1.15?

    Thanks.

Check out Doug Jensen's info at Vortex Media. He's got some manuals that are worth their weight in gold.

The main learning curve for me was the workflow. I found that when i was working with xdcam ex footage i would have to convert it to mxf files and then i could edit on avid. This meant that i had two different sets of codecs to back up. I would have to back up mxf files and the bpav files. i read up some more about this right here on dvx and the comments seemed to lean towards not deleting the bapv files even though i was only using the mxf files. But my problems changed when i figured out that premier uses the bpav files without having to reincode them. So i don't have to have two sets of different codecs backed up.

Ive been really happy wit the ex, i made my decision to buy it based on the posts here at dvx. I think i was one of the first to use mxm for my tapes. It was really scary putting down so much money on a untested solid state memory, but it paid off in the end, only after a few lost clips.

The viewfinder is really cool as it is fairly big. If your into audio recording on the seperate xlr channels then you need to play around and get them working properly before you go on a shoot. It was confusing for me to try and work out how the ex settings for the external mic work and how to get it to record on seperate channels. Oh and the trimming is crazy; you have to learn all the different settings for the different mics you use.
