I hope the rumours are true but it's faster than that Lumix lens at 3.5-5.6.
Apart from the power zoom which wouldn't work for us fs100 users the speed would be the thing most people would be interested in. Would it be possible for a F2.8 16-50 to come in a pancake size?

I doubt it, there are physical limitations of size and sensor coverage. I can't see f2.8 at that size on 35mm.
Don't forget that with the emount there are some tiny, great Leica primes from voigtlander that are very light and quite cost effective. Although i am surprised you can balance the FS on a merlin! We had one for a while, drove me nuts. Ended up with a Pilot instead.
