I'm currently running with a Pentax 28mm lens, manual focus. It can be hard to tell if my subject is in focus all the time, is there a way to get the focus assistant with another lens?

    Craig,

Since you said you're not looking for a monitor, which is pretty much the go-to focus assistant... Do you mean a lense that employs Auto Focus?

You did not say what camera you have. GH2 has a menu "Shoot without lens" option that then brings up a zoom by the push of the wheel to help with focusing. Are you already using this and are looking for more?

I would like one, I'm actually watching one on eBay, I just don't have the funds for it.

And what I am talking about is this: When the kit lens, you switch to manual focus, and when you adjust the focus it zooms in very far so you can get an accurate focus. I am wondering if that is possible with another lens.

That is what I'm looking for! I searched in the FN3 options but could not find it.

I found that tapping the screen also brings up focus assist.

Focus assist works, you just have to assign a button to it (it won't do it automatically for you if you have a manual lens). However, you can't activate that mode during recording, so if you want a focus assist that works during recording you must have a monitor or EVF device.
