The Zoom H4 and H4n are both pretty battery hungry. Make a point of using lithium AA's next time, if possible.

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering because it runs out of battery pretty quick. It seems to me that even if leave the battery in and not using the device, it would still steal some juice out of it. So I always separate the battery from the device until I use it. Any other audio recording devices that does not use so much power?

Also make sure phantom power is not enabled.
