So I think I am about to purchase a DVX100a and download final cut pro, there's just a few things I'm having trouble wrapping my head around.
I know the DVX100a shoots in 4:3, and the standard today is 16:9. I highly doubt I'll be able to find the anamorphic lens for a price I can afford. I've heard of people doing things like "upresing" or upscaling? using squeeze mode on the dvx100?
basically, will i be able to make the picture 16:9 and look good with the dvx100a and final cut pro? how do i do this? and will anything be different if i shoot in 24p?

I forgot to mention, I don't want to just use letterbox mode, I really don't want the black bars across the screen

The DVX100a and DVX100b both have squeeze mode, which allow you to shoot in 16:9. There's more to it, but that's all you really need. I doubt you'll be starting a career with this camera anyway, so the slight resolution issues won't really matter. There are much bigger resolution issues with it being DV. Generally NLE programs understand DV 16:9 and you don't have to do anything but use the right preset.
I also don't believe FCP has the option for purchasing a digital download.
