Slow motion begins at over 30p (or 24p and 25p), you just set the frame rate higher than the mode you're recording at, and it will record slow motion on normal timeline. Hope that's what you mean.

.If you recorded at 60p and your timeline is 30 fps, then you should just be able to adjust the speed from one of the right-click menus
i recorded at 30p & put 30p on 30 timeline (30fps) .
is there any other way i can slow down the footage without it looking choppy?

As far as I know, only by using a plugin to AE like Twixtor: http://www.revisionfx.com/products/twixtor/
But I understand even that's not perfect.
