While NAB had its ups and downs I did find a few stand out companies

Konova This small company makes really great Camera Sliders and Skate Dollies at a cost way less than the their competition. The quality of the workmanship and design is top notch.

Edelkrone Another small company making truly solid DSLR rigs including the amazing Pocket Rig.

Cinemills a lighting company who's booth was hidden behind registration away from the other lighting company, they sell "LEDZ" led lights as well as a led soft light "Cinesoft" (which the keno Flo Celeb is a nock off)

Autodesk blew the doors off by previewing Smoke 2013 for the mac costing under $4,000 which is also a killer NLE

Thanks for posting. So often, it is behind these companies where you can find the best deals.

4000 USD? I couldn't find the price mentioned? I had got my film colour corrected using smoke and know that it is good. Integration with Mac will be very nice.

While the reduced price on smoke is welcome, there are quite a few things that keep it from being a true NLE/ vs the finishing tool it is.

I second the Edelkrone reference. I like this guy and admire his independent spirit. I believe he is really trying to think outside of the box. I am curious when he has moved on from these mainstays what he is going to turn his attention to next.

From HDuser magazine "Smoke 2013 is Mac compatible, cheap at USD$3495 and has had the UI redesigned to be friendlier to editors. While they aren’t marketing it as a replacement for your normal NLE, it plays nicelywith Avid, Adobe etc. and has a lot of compositing and effects tools. Release is this September but there is a free preview release available in June on www.autodesk.com/ smoke-trial."

First I was not aware that Autodesk was evil, care to explain? Second if you have never seen what Smoke can do you would be blown away and at $3495 it is a steal.
