Just got done importing DV AVI footage from Camera, AVI Files sound distorted in FCP

This may be newbie question to the Panasonic forum, but I just started using the AG-AC130 here at work.

I shot the footage as DV AVI 480i. The footage was transfered from the camera with a USB cable to the Mac. I know that the clips are recorded fine because they playback fine from my desktop in quicktime.
The problem is when I import the folder into FCP7 and drop the files on my timeline the sound output from dv is horrid loud and nothing but digital noise.
In my browser it says that the audio is 48k and 16bit integer. What would cause this to occur?

It seems to have to do with the sequence settings in FCP. The sound was ok after re-importing to FCP.
