Thanks for the link. It's funny but in the shower this morning I was thinking about this restoration. I had just read an article about earthquakes and I wondered to myself "if California went under would all we have left are blu-ray copies of Jaws?" The article you linked to says this:

We will archive the 4k original scans, we will archive the 4k colour corrected and restored files, and we will digitally back those up outside of California. And that’s just our standard practice.
    Smart move.

If we fell into the ocean while watching the blu-ray, sharks might just become a reality. No 3D needed.... :-O

That's because thousands to millions of people will purchase Jaws on Blu-ray, many of whom already purchased it once before on DVD (I know I will because I consider it a masterpiece of American cinema).

Those 4k scans will be proper 4k as well. 4k for each channel I think, so it will be the same kind of resolution that you would get from an 8k bayer sensor. Even so, looking at those screenshots, the image is actually extremely soft compared to todays still photography so any more resolution than that would be overkill anyway.
