I'm planning to purchase my first camera. I'm considering the Canon EOS 60D DSLR. I'd like to hear from you what your personal experiences with it have been.

What you loved/hated about using it?

Any advantages/disadvantages you ran into while shooting?

What you think are the absolutely necessary accessories to purchase with the camera?

....+ anything else you'd like to add ;)

Thank you so much for your feedback!!

So far I really love the articulating screen. Allows me to shoot all sorts of angles easily. Magic lantern works really well on it. Downsides are like any other DSLR. No audio monitoring although you can see bars with ML. Need separate audio or the rode shotgun mic is improvement.

The build is decent and a good small size whereas MkII I find bulky. But of course no full frame sensor. You do get 60fps which is nice.

I owned a Canon 60D for about 4 months ( I bought it when it first came out ), and then later sold it after owning a Panasonic GH-2 for a couple of months.

I am mainly interested in video production, and the Panasonic GH-2 ( especially with the high bit-rate modification ) produces a much better video image.

If I was mainly shooting still photos I would have kept the Canon 60D, as it's a great still photo camera. ( the GH-2 is an OK still photo camera, but you must shoot still photos in the RAW format as the camera does not produce very good JPEGs )

I used the Panasonic GH-2 on my last film I directed (camera operator/cinematographer: Gary Huff) and I was recommended by a few people that it was too complicated a camera to break my teeth on...but I agree with you in that it gives a gorgeous image. The film turned out amazingly well...we're finishing up post-production now.

This is a great example of what can be achieved with the GH2 camera in the right hands...
