Yeah, looks like it's legit! Cool!

Maybe Canon planned it this way:

"Sure! You can get sharper video! You just have to take apart our camera and void your warranty!"

    Genius :P

EDIT: anyone want to try the same thing on a Red or an Alexa? Bonus points if it's a rental!

Great :-( I just ordered the d800... Now this comes up. Back to the drawing boarding. I wish canon would play it straight instead of milking its products.

Who knows. I might just keep the d800 when it arrives (the d800 wouldn't arrive until early june because of the high demand which is probably a good thing). So far, IMHO, nikon has played it "more straight" than canon. Hopefully, the clean hdmi thing works out. I'm really sick of canon and would love to switch systems. I only have a 7d and several great lens so switching wouldn't be such a big deal... but man, I was all set on switching and giving canon "the bird".

It's like an entirely different image coming from the 5D Mark III. Definitely download the 1080P for the best resolution.

Food for thought........ I mentioned days ago- I was curious why the Marionette short film from Canon shot on the 5D Mark III looked so much better ( more detailed ) than what was coming from the 5D Mark III videos filmed with the shipping cameras. Were the pre-production models missing a soft element? An OLPF?

Frame grabs with a slight USM applied- Without the OLPF the images are already sharp now from the 5D MARK III, however I wanted to see how a little USM applied would look.
