I'm just researching matte boxes for the moment and i've been reading the many threads on them...but I'd like a head to head comparison on these 2 if anyone has first hand accounts using them. The RR is WAY more $ and im sure its better quality...but do you think that quality is justified? How is the Konova overall? I cant find anything on the konvoa matte box on this site....just konova slider. They make some decent products.

I've been researching matte boxes for the past week. And I've narrowed it down to this one. It is a bit more $$ than the konova matte box but it's probably way better. To me it doesn't look any worse then the one from RR.
Matte boxes from companies like Redrock, Arri, etc., etc., are IMHO way overpriced. It's a piece of metal and plastic for crying out loud!
This is the other one (the more expensive model) from the same company.Sanjin vajger

thanks for your opinion Kinoks. Why do you think the Lanparte is better? Also heres a review of 2 matteboxes which includes the Lanparte http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy_un94FsPs

Lanparte I can get from UK which means no import duty or tax. I can get it from a trusty reseller cinegearpro. But the Cinematics and the konova Matt boxes look nice to. I think that you should get the one that you can get the cheapest as they probably don't differ much in quality. Lamparte is plastic in the front, so the Cinematics is probably better regarding sturdiness...
I have to check what's the import duty when ordering from china. If it's not to huge then I just might order the one from konova along with their slider...

That Konova Matte Box looks identical to one I have, sold under a different brand.
Seems it's available under a few different guises:

If it is the same, then be aware that the filter frames have very poor catches and seem designed for lightweight 2mm resin filters.
If you put in 4mm 4x5.65 glass filters and turn the tray upside down they will drop out. THe 4x4 adapter plate is useless - the filters flop from one side to the other when the frame is rotated.
Also, the swing away clamp is not aligned properly so the rear opening is slightly off-centre, and the whole assembly is quite heavy.
I bought it with a very specific (studio) application in mind where I need to stack two rotatable filters on a second camera without breaking the bank. Apart from the appalling filter frames and the need for a bellows it was nearly usable in that scenario...as it is, it's just a rather heavy lens shade with flags included.
In fairness to my vendor, after I complained they did promise to send me revised filter frames (separate 4.5.65 and 4x4) at some point. We'll see.
If you're planning on using decent 4mm glass or shooting in the field, I's strongly advise you look at other options.

This is a video review of the Konova matte box and it seems that you are not the only one having problems with to big filter trays and off centre alignment.
Obviously this is not the matte box to buy! At least not before they fix the problems it has.Sanjin vajger

Have you looked into Shoot35's CineBox? From what I've heard, it's a decent bit of kit!
Also. Judging from the Build Quality of Konova's Slider (which I have, and oh my god is it amazing), I am tempted to get their Mattebox. Im happy with the ProAim MatteBox I have now, but I want something fancier and a little but sturdier
