I recently acquired a Panasonic dvx100a. I know I'm supposed to use firewire to connect it to my laptop. Unfortunatly my laptop does not have an input for firewire. Is there another way to upload my videos to my laptop?
GEAR
Laptop- Toshiba Satellite L505
Camera- Panasonic dvx100a
Thanks in advanced!

I had this same problem with my first laptop.
I was fortunate enough to have an Express Card slot and I bought a Firewire to Express adapter off eBay for about $35.
Looking at the L505 specs, though, there isn't anything in there.
Having a USB to Firewire converter isn't going to cut it because of the huge difference in bandwidth.
You'd need something along the lines of the Pinnacle Studio MovieBox (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSit...version+14.htm)
to get it in.
The other alternative, of course, is to buy another laptop :P

Thanks that's what I figured. I have an older laptop I gave to my grandmother. Hopefully that has a FireWire input or express card slot.

Or you could upgrade to an HMC series camera... that is a nice nice upgrade.
