Well, this is from a well known 4/3 rumour website, but of course it's a rumour so usual caution advised. There are claims from several of their sources that the video on the forthcoming Olympus OM-D is 'better than the GH2' and 'beats it hands down'. Bold talk. Apparently, one of the aspects Olympus worked hard on reducing was jello effect. Worth a heads up though because the camera is due to be announced within a few weeks. Weathersealing, tilting LCD and 5 axis in-camera stabilisation sound interesting to me, if indeed those features turn out to be correct.

It's always helpful to link to the article that you're referring to.
The article only references a reduction in the "jello" and then claims of higher dynamic range. No mention of codec. If the new Olympus indeed has a better sensor for video, but outputs it as 17mbps H.264 and is unhackable, then it's worthless.
No one will know for sure until it is released.

Thanks for posting the link Gary. I started writing my post by including it but then removed it because I wasn't sure what the DVXuser policy was about links to rumor websites. You're right -no codecs, framerates or bitrates mentioned in the article as they don't have this level of detail yet, but they do mention the video quality claims - unsubstantiated as the camera isn't even available to test yet. I would be surprised and disappointed if the bit rate was any less than 24mbps. I would hope 28mbps but as you say, we don't know anything until it's released.

I am keeping a close eye on these new Olympus OM-D cameras. It would be great if they are as good as the GH-2 for video work, and if not then the new Olympus lenses ( 5 new lenses are supposed to be in the works including more primes ) might be worth looking in to.
Cameras : Panasonic GH3 with Grip, Panasonic GH2, Panasonic HMC-150
OIS Zoom : Lumix 12-35mm f/2.8, Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8

When I was a kid, I lusted after Olympus OMs (and Nikon Fs and Canon AEs :-)) -- and the rumored weathersealing, video improvements and in-camera stabilization are really attractive. But if it has a tilting LCD (as opposed to Panasonic's flip-out LCD), I won't be buying one.
I sure hope the GH3 is weathersealed.Last edited by brunerww; 01-29-2012 at 05:46 AM.

Olympus owns some high speed photography technology so they have an opportunity - but I'll bet they don't take advantage of it.

Let's wait for some well done samples.
It has no 24p nor 60p, so it is useless for me. But I'm curious about how that IBIS does work in video mode...

Fortcoming Olympus OM-D - v ideo better than GH2
