So guys, I'm investing in the Sony NEX-VG20 soon (I might go for the VG10 yet, I'm unsure), I'm not far off saving up enough money for it - however, I use a Sony Netbook at the moment, and really need to know what kind of laptop I'm going to need to edit/handle the clips with! I'm 16, and I'm really not the most technical person at all - so if anybody knows in terms of RAM or HDD space then that'd help. I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers! I saw a laptop and it had 7 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of HDD - which sounded powerful to me, but I don't know! Hope you can all help!

    P.S.
I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this thread, I wasn't entirely that sure!

Do you know which NLE you're interested in? Sony Vegas? Adobe Premiere? AVID? You can check the software specs for minimum requirements to get an idea, but never get the minimum (always go above, as you'll have a smoother experience and a little more forward compatibility).

For RAM, the more the merrier.

Hard Drive space doesn't matter as much, as you won't want to store your video media on your boot drive. That can bog the system down. Get an external hard drive to use for your footage.

What will really matter is the processor. Again, check the specs on your editing software to see where the minimum is, and get something better. But generally, 2.2GHz or better dual- or quad-core i7.

I use Sony Vegas, myself - Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 to be precise! I've purchased a 450GB external hard drive in advance, so I have that to save all of the footage on!

How will I check the specs on my editor to find this "minimum", just in the Properties or whatever?

Thanks so much for the response, your support means a lot!

Thanks so much for this man, and I'll be sure to look out for these specs when I'm buying a laptop to edit with. Thank you!
