Does anyone know of a software that will capture a powerpoint presentation and a video stream together?
I basically am looking for a way to record a feed of the presenter and the presentation, split screen or PIP, so I don't have to go back and edit in all the slides...
Is there software or hardware that will do that?

You could rent a switcher and record off of that to some other media, deciding which one to show while it records. Some of them allow dual screen and the like. If you can get both inputs into a computer I'm sure there's a software solution, but I don't know what options there are to get both inputs.

Not sure I'm following you but you could use Camtasia on a PC to record a screencast of the PowerPoint presentation. On a Mac, you could use Screenflow or even just QuickTime Player, depending on what your needs are specifically. Will the live presenter be captured via video camera? If so, just make sure you frame it so you can insert the PowerPoint slide video as a PIP. Then use your NLE to sync the 2 video files.

Thank you both!
I've never used Camtasia, but I'll check it out...
A switcher might be a quick and easy fix too!
I really appreciate the input!Joshua Avila

Have a look at Singular Software's Presto software (FCP, Premiere on Mac, and Vegas only right now). It requires two cameras, one for the presenter and the other for the screen. Then you also need the slides. But then the software synchronizes the slides with the video and motion tracks the presenter (so you can go a bit wide and don't have to pan so much) and gives you a bunch or options to present them PiP.
And because it is all done in an NLE, you can adjust timings, add titles, etc.
The other option is to get a Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio ($1000) and connect it to both your video camera (HDMI or HD-SDI) and the computer running the presentation (HDMI, so this takes a bit more planning as that whole A/V world is still VGA heavy) and then live switch A to B or PiP (I think you can picture in picture with the Television Studio but maybe that is only on the ATEM 1 M/E ($2,500).

Cant you just capture the powerpoint in Post? I know you can capture the timings of the PP, so your following exactly what the audience "did" see... then just join the video and the PP in post. (What I mean, is you can "audition" the PP presentation and then go back and export that timing after the presentation. Either that, or just screen record to video.)
Or, are you re-broadcasting the PP live with a video feed?

SonicFoundry is a company that makes encoders especially for this. Their format outputting options are limited, however.
