    If you can wait some time, we arranged very good deal on specially assembled carbon legs and fluid head specially modified for light HDSLRs :

    First batch went too fast, and second one requires some time.

    I know I may change my mind four times more before friday (that is when I'll buy it)
    The Sachtler ACE has been pushed back (again) to January so if you're planning on buying something this Friday your decision just got a bit easier.

    the offer that vitaliy arranged is absolutely awesome, anybody able to buy directly in China, check it out - myself, being terribly frightened by customs after a couple of bad experiences, will buy something cheaper and not so nice inside the EU (probably the 7060, I know there are much better options out there, but they're also more expensive)

    Hello good people,

    Happy Thanksgiving to you all. For Black Friday tomorrow, I'm going to cave and finally upgrade my s*%tty SLIK tripod. I'm eyeballing these two set-ups on Amazon:

    Manfrotto 501HDV,547BK Tripod Kit with 501HDV Head, 547B Tripod and MBAG100P Tripod Bag (Black) - $362.50

    http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-501HDV-547BK-Tripod-MBAG100P/dp/B002B3YBPO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1322168128&sr=8-2

    vs

    Manfrotto 501HDV,546BK Video Kit with 501HDV Head and 546B Tripod (Black) - $499.99

    http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-501HDV-546BK-Video-Tripod/dp/B003FGWKJK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1322168128&sr=8-5

    Is the better one (second link) worth the price difference? My budget is really around $300-$400, so I'm thinking I may just go with the top one. I'm sort of a weekend photography. But as an independent director with a Canon 7D and a decent set of lenses, I'll be using this for filming purposes too. So if neither of these fit the bill, I'm open to suggestions. It's just gotta be in that price range.

    Thank you!

    the 7060 seems better than any of those, for a similar price (though I still haven't received mine)

    * 055xprob legs
    * 555b column with 50mm bowl
    * 055XCCSB short center column

    I'll use the 555b column most of the time (the bowl head is very important for quick setup), the standard column when I need some extra height, and the short column when I need to get as close to the ground as possible

    I know in the future I may want to get video-oriented legs (546 or similar), but even then I'll need a more lightweight option too, so I decided it's best to start with the good-but-relatively-lightweight 055

    I think the sachtler ACE will have an incredibly smooth head, but the legs that come with it will be a dissappointment: if you watch the (very positive) video review by Philip Bloom, you can see the legs behaving in a very unstable manner and him having to put his hand on them to keep them steady (he doesn't comment on that issue, other than saying the feet are not great; I've seen similar complaints on other reviews, so maybe it's just the feet; but it definitely seems like a big problem)
    http://philipbloom.net/2011/09/09/ace/
    (on the other hand: on the comments there he says he prefers the ACE to the manfrotto 504+546: "i don’t like the Manfrotto. Too heavy and don’t like the head. i have one" - and then, on la later comment: "no the 501 head is AWFUL!!!")
    (then, on those same comments, there's someone complaining he just got an ACE and it shows some kickback movement after panning)
    (the fact that the ACE will probably not be available here in Spain except at outrageous prices makes my decision a lot easier)

    edit: the ACE is already listed on bhphoto, at $535 and with arrival date in january:
    http://www.bhcameragadgets.com/c/sea...tialSearch=yes
    total weight is very similar to 055+501 (4.4Kg vs 4.0Kg)
    Tripod can help us to take more good effect photos, i will want to buy one.
