I recently had a hard drive crash. Had to wipe and reinstall everything -- Windows XP and all apps.

I re-installed Vegas Pro 8.0c without a problem. Also installed the latest Quicktime Player (7.7). But when I add a clip shot with my Canon T3i to the timeline, all I get is black -- no video. I assume it's a codec issue, but I thought installing the latest Quicktime would resolve that. I also installed the software that came with the T3i, of course.

I didn't have this problem before the crash. Any ideas???

That version of QuickTime is too new for Pro 8 to handle.
Uninstall it and install 7.6.2 which you can find on the Avid site.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but there's a new wrinkle.

Got a new PC. It runs Windows 7. Installed my old Vegas Pro 8.0c and it runs great.

But on my old PC, there were some files that I'd rendered out at Quicktime .MOV files, then put the .MOV files into the timeline. Unfortunately, now those files won't work properly. No video, no nothing.

As before, I went and installed that same older version of Quicktime Pro -- version 7.6.2. That fixed it before, but now it only makes things worse. Vegas crashes even trying to load a project with those .MOV files in it. I uninstalled Quicktime and the project loads fine, but the .MOV files can't be viewed or used.

So obviously this is related to Quicktime codecs, but what worked before (installing Quicktime 7.6.2) isn't working now.

    Soooo.....any ideas???

    It's a KILLER connection!
