I'd like to achieve color correction which is close to something like this:

can anybody give some tips as to some the techniques used to colour correct that photo? My guesses would be: slight decrease on saturation and a green tint? I tried a couple of things with color balance, channel mixer and curves, but my photos still look more like "natural" photos rather then have a fantasy / mysterious feel to them...

Any help is very much appreciated! (I'd still consider myself new to the color correction side though..)

    here is another example...

It actually doesn't look like they did much to it. Decrease in saturation would do it. Looks like more of a vintage lens as well with a flater picture style. I've had good luck with hdr using the surreal preset in photoshop and tweaking. Most cameras have an option to take various exposures. In photoshop go to file...automate...merge to hdr pro. Then you select the files you want. I do 3 because that's all my camera does. With one set for -2 0 and +2 on the exposure...adjusted for light of course. Within the hdr there are surreal presets that give an interesting effect. With a little bit of tweaking you can get some interesting stuff. You can go for the photorealistic preset if you want less surreal image. It's all about taste. Not sure how real or surreal you're going for. Her's some examples. I use for hdr timelapse for video mixed with 3d elements so I tend to go over the top. But it will give you an idea...

For me these shots were not so much 'color corrected' as color altered. To me they have a distinct yellow cast, so some form of 'warming' was performed. The Wife uses NIK filters a lot for this sort of thing on her stills.

Place your eyedropper tool on a black area. Check the RGB values for color cast. Add curves layer.
