This is probably a simple thing to most of you...
I need to download some video from the internet (YouTube, etc.) and be able to work with it in Vegas.
What have you all found to be the simplest way to do this?
Thank you!

I use YouTube Downloader, and have it automatically converted to a .mov file. The output quality is very good

Or you might like to try:-
www.freemake.com
It comes highly recommended (although I haven't uised it myself, I'm afraid).
Alternatively the Firefox downloader allows you to download and format that download as you wish.

Thanks to you both! I'll try both of those.
I received a video by email, as an attached mp4. When I bring it into Vegas, the audio is there, but there's no video.
Any idea what would cause that?

.mp4 is just a container. Vegas probably doesn't support the codec hiding inside it. Use Gspot to identify the codec - Get CCCP and try again. if it still doesn't open, try using something else to convert it into a vegas friendly format.

The easiest way I've found to get videos off the net is the following.
Download Firefox or Chrome browser (Firefox has the edge here)
Then simply Google "Firefox (or chrome) youtube downloader" You will find many add-ons. I'm not at my computer so I can't tell you which I'm using right now, but several of them work really well. Just try a few until you find one you like. Some will give you the option to download the file in MP4 or FLV format. No need to use an external website and have the file emailed you you.Visit my channel to see my latest videos

Mmm... mine is lot more complex but possibly more dynamic: Load the video up, look in your browser cache and copy the temporary video file. Run it though FFMPEG (preferably using a GUI like Avanti) to a decent bitrate H.264 video file and it's good to go.

Just remember that there are legal copyright issues involved with downloading another person's work and using it without their express permission.

Yeah, very aware of copyrights...I don't do that, thanks.
