Looks like they slapped that together with off the shelf OEM parts. We will see, I have a feeling that the firmware is going to be the big challenge on something like this.

It really looks like a PC with a PL mount.

Not bad, for a first try.

What do you think a RED, F3, AF100 or HDSLR are? PC's with Lens mounts. Th,e better known ones just have prettier packaging. I wouldnt care if it were a square box if it did what it was supposed to.

I still remember how huge the Dalsa Origin Camera looked. THAT was really like a PC case with lens.

    -this looked way better.

In this case I literally mean that it looks like it might have an intel or some other x86 type processor. I have no idea really, am not too sure it really matters unless we are talking about battery life. I am not nocking this camera.

All of the cameras you mention use a FPGA or some type of dedicated processor for specific camera functions. This camera might also be using that type of technology as well.

One big advantage of going the x86 route is it would be a lot easier to develop and potently it could be very modular. I like the idea for buying a camera new egg style.

You might love the FS-100... it sure is boxy.

If cinematography wasn't infinite, I'm sure I would have found the end by now.

That might just as well be the future. You buy a sensor block, and a la carte everything else.

Yep, and the AF100 ain't now beauty queen either. None of the new digital cinema cameras are especially visual alluring. I think that is part of being a "Geek". You can see the beauty in a boxy device, based on its capabilities and function.

Wow, now that camera's had a good hard beating with the ugly stick..... very agricultural design!

Seriously though as others have said if it shakes things up and pushes the usual suspects to do better etc then that can only be a good thing!

According to their website they are developing the S35 CMOS camera shown in the article, along with a S16 CCD camera, and a S8 CMOS camera - all with exchangeable lens mounts. Interesting times.
