October Black, I was just going to post that the next fest should be called SCARE FEST!
Hear me out...
One of the hardest things to do is to scare the audience. We've had many previous versions of a horror fest come october for the past 5 years,
but how often have the films concentrated on actually scaring the viewer? Scaring is as hard as pulling off comedy, either it works or it doesn't.
It's an art form. And it's something I think we, as up and coming directors, need practice at.
Scares don't have to come in the form of jump scares. The Shining and the Exorcist are scary because they build tension as the lead characters become possessed.
But Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell is full of classic jump scares (often lauded as cheap scare tactics) which are amazingly timed and edited and scared the crap outta me.
SCARES do not have to be associated with horror. In Mad Max, when the baby is sitting in the middle of the road and there's a car speeding 100 mph at it... that's scary!
So I vote SCARE FEST. And I dare other filmmaker's to figure out how to scare me.

I'll hang a very expensive camera (RED) from the tenth floor of a building, the street looming far below. The rope it's tethered to wil be covered in peanut butter and slowly gnawed at by rats.
That should scare plenty of filmmakers.
Or I could just post the clip of the cat woman stunt double that crashed into the IMAX camera on set the other day.

I know the mods are busy, but something was promised for last weekend and it's obviously come and gone. I have actors who want to participate, but it's frustrating when I can't give them a date for the shoot. They work other jobs or are in local plays, so getting a schedule put together is a problem. Same for potential crew members. Not asking for the moon, just a heads-up on the date.
"If they move, kill'em!"
