Honestly, it's going to be hard to spot the difference between 24 and 30p, especially if you are posting on the internet.
You could always add a film-look plugin, like Magic Bullet.
    That's crazy talk. There's a huge difference between 24fps and 30fps.

I disagree. Are you sure you could spot the difference between the two?

The difference between 30 FPS and 24 FPS is huge. This is one of the reasons the early Todd-AO 65MM movies used 30 FPS, because it looked so much different and more "realistic" than 24 FPS. Anybody who's seen the 30-FPS transfer of the classic Todd-AO 65mm musical OKLAHOMA knows that I'm talking about. It looks NOTHING like a 'traditional' 24 FPS movie, just completely different and much more of a "live TV" look.

I've been using your 1920x720 422 patch for both shooting with an anamorphic, frame size stays at the shooting size, and for 1920x1080 with no anamorphic, stretching from 720 to 1080. Now I'm tempted to go from gf1 to gh2. Would this new gh2 patch work with a frame size of 1920x720? what do you think of the image quality of the gf1 422 1920x1080 (from 720) vs the gh2 1920x1080 with this new patch? How is the possibility of 422 looking for the gh2?

We really shouldn't be going so off-track in lpowell's patch thread...

I've started a new thread, please post there:

It looks to us to be somewhere in between 720 and 1080. A still photo jpeg at the 1920x1080 resolution has more resolution than MJPEG video at the same resolution. But MJPEG at 720 looks poor compared with MJPEG set to 1920x1080.

    Great. Thanks!

So how does this MJPEG 1080p 100Mbps patch compared to AVCHD 1080 24p at say 50Mbps? What are situations when it is better to use one over the other?

So am I getting this right: That means, 25p is possible on GH2 with MJPEG instead of AVCHD?

Thanks a lot lpowell! Im still a fan of this old i-frame only codec. Ive tested the 720p30 mjpeg intensively just after I bought my gh2. And it displayed a lot of artifacts - noise and macroblocking. What Ive seen so far your patch shows a very good quality. This encourage me to take a first go with a patch. But Id prefer a complete patch with 1080p24, 720p50/60 and your mjpeg. The 720p patches arent really convincing at the moment imho - can we expect a 720p50/60 patch made by you?

MJPEG has 2GB file size limit, but should record fast motion better than AVCHD (without any hack; some AVCHD hacks lower the GOP which makes AVCHD closer to MJPEG).
