Trying to incorporate higher quality text animation

into my corporate work. I'm using motion currently, but I'm looking to take my corp work to the next level.

Can anyone recommend a good text engine at a decent price point to generate text similar to what is featured in this IBM production?

I'm not really sure what you're specifically looking for. I only watched the first 45 seconds or so of that link, but there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get those same effects in Motion already.

I've played with Motion, but as a long-time photoshop guy, After Effects does the job with less learning curve. And the massive user base means there's a tutorial for about anything you want to do.

I second that comment by Michael Carter. As someone who has seen a lot of AE tutorials I can assure u that there is a tut for any complex text animation in After Effects

I too have both motion and AE and I use AE almost exclusively. Motion has been great if I need to throw something together in a hurry with their presets. However, when getting in and getting dirty, I find most things easier with AE. And that is with using Motion first. As Michael said, given my photoshop background, that might be the case. Also, trying to find tutorials on Motion is HORRIBLE. I think 'Motion' must be the absolute worst name for a product. When you search "Motion tutorials" you get so much stuff that is about the actual concept of "motion" and not the program.

I agree with everyone on the preference of AE, but if he doesn't already have access or own a copy of AE I wouldn't necessarily recommend going out and buying it when he has Motion readily available.

The animation displayed in the posted link is pretty standard stuff for any motion graphics program.

However, if you're really looking to invest a lot of time learning this stuff and getting deep into it, then the AE community is much larger.

There are dozens of text behaviors in Motion that can accomplish these effects or those similar to the ones in the IBM spot.

No need to go to AE, especially if you don't own the program.

I've been using AE for nearly a decade, and I've been using Motion since it was introduced. Having watched the 1st half minute or so of the sample, I think an experienced artist could easily do that in either Motion or AE or Combustion.

I think that most people with no experience would be able to learn Motion much more quickly. Plus, the GUI and working paradigm of Motion is much more modern.
The basic GUI and paradigm of AE has changed only cosmetically since I've begun to use it.

The whole concept of precomposing in AE is inherently very inefficient and ridiculously opaque, while the nested layering paradigm of Motion is just much more efficient and transparent to achieve the same result.
