Anybody watch last night? It's a fantasy series on HBO based on George Martin's Fire & Ice novels. It's without a doubt maybe the best looking television show I've ever seen. Outstanding production wise. The first episode was okay. A lot of scene setting. Seems like the story is just warming up, and considering the amount of characters involved, there is a lot of warming up to do. I'm fine with that. Rome didn't get going until 3 or 4 episodes in and then was awesome all the way to the finish. Spartacus as well didn't find it's footing for several episodes. Peter Dinklage is already a standout, and Mark Addy entertaining as the debauched King. Plenty of boobies too, although after Spartacus this show feels relatively chaste.

Wife and I are watching it as well.

    Loved it.

The Arri Alexa really shines too.

Wow, I didn't know it was shot digitally. Looked beautiful. My theatre screen isn't very forgiving and I notice shows shot digitally hold up better to satellite compression.

There was a shot where The King's loyal friend and his wife (don't know the names yet) were sitting by a little pond - I was actually thinking to myself "Wonder what this was shot on?" There was a huge range of light to dark in that scene, and the camera just ate it up and produced incredible detail. Thanks for the info.

    Great show.
I watched 'The making of'... it definitely showed some ARRI film cameras, you could clearly see the film cannister.
Looks like their mixing digi & film.

I´m getting speed sickness from it. They´re burning through the book so fast there´s no time to enjoy the cast, sets or even the story... I love the books, but they should have adapted instead of copy pasted the first one.

I started to get that feeling with this episode, that they were leaping through the story a bit aggressively. It's feeling fragmented, like they're just checking off plot points. It's a gorgeous looking show but I'm still waiting for something amazing to happen that hasn't yet.

I just watched the first 3 episodes again back-to-back, and they are better that way.

It feels more like a really long feature film that has been cut into several pieces than an episodic TV show.

There just really isn't enough time in an hour to touch on all of the characters stories in a way that feels complete, but watched in continuity, it doesn't feel like it is moving too fast at all.
