Sound Devices PIX 220 and PIX 240 video recorders add Quicktime recording using Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD* to any HDMI-or HD-SDI equipped high-definition video camera. The portable PIX 220 (HDMI-only) and its sibling the PIX 240 (HDMI and HD-SDI) record Quicktime files to CompactFlash cards or removable 2.5-inch solid-state hard drives.
Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD video formats have emerged as industry standards. These I-frame codecs offer the best in picture quality, processing efficiency, and data storage requirements. They are ideal for editing, on-the-fly color grading, and video processing. Files recorded in the field on a PIX recorder are ready for the most popular editorial workflows.

That's $$$exy. Probably built like a tank, and doesn't start below... $3000, maybe a fair bit more?
Lots of toys... that I barely know how to turn on

Wow, these things are just coming out of the woodwork in droves now.
Can't wait to see a head-to-head comparison of all the competing outboard recorders. I'm esp. interested in the quality and feature set of the monitors (for those that have them, like the SDs, and Atamos).-----------------------------------------------------

If that thing is built anything near the quality of my 302 field mixer, I want one. I know that is apples and oranges, but my sound devices mixer will probably survive the end of the world.

Wow, this is quite a device. I wonder if the prices will be competitive with the Nanoflash.

Curious that they don't mention anything about timecode. Not that I expect it via HDMI but HD-SDI or some sorta jam would be much appreciated, especially considering the Sound Devices heritage.

Wow, nice find. Now there's quite a few recorders to choose from. This one has some nice features, but it looks a little bulky for mounting on camera. I'd be interested in price and delivery as well. Sound Devices usually has high quality, but a corresponding high price, too.

Avid DNXHD is an option. No 4:4:4 option.

Time Code and Genlock
Additionally, the PIX 240 has a tunable, high-accuracy time code generator/reader by Ambient complete with Genlock (or word clock) output. The time code source can be derived from an HD-SDI stream, from an external jammed source, or from the built-in generator.
