Would really like to stay under the 280$ range if possible... Obviously I'm looking for a 72MM thread, with little or no degrading around the edges...

i used to use this when i had a DVX100a and it was very very nice. buying the same lens to fit on my EX1 wasnt so nice though. highly recommended on the DVX100. there is some curvature although nowhere near a fisheye. there is no light loss. as i recall you can zoom in to about 40% of the zoome range.
