Dp Trouble

I have a guy who agreed to Dp the short Film I am working on. I've only spoken to him twice since he rescheduled a meeting. I have a location scout coming up and he doesn't know if he can make it. This is the first short I am making outside of family and friends. I don't feel he's putting toward the effort. Am I wrong or should I find another Dp?

vcassel is spot on. You pretty much will get what you're paying for. If you're not paying him or you're paying him a token amount then you have to make some allowances. It's up to you whether the compromise is worth it for your project. If you feel that it's not then you should replace him.

Why is he rescheduling the meeting and why couldn't he make the scout? Does it sound like he wants to do the scout?

If he's missing both of them because he has paying jobs doing film stuff, then try and work with him. He's probably worth the compromise.

If he's just missing it for who knows what reason, then ditch him.

But of course if you're paying him, and paying him well, then you should just find someone else.
