any advice on good slr cameras? was looking at the rebel xt, but that's a little to much.

A friend recently told me about the Fuji S3. The only thing I remember was something about really great latitude and highlight detail because of some new whiz bang tech new thing... and that it accepts Nikon lenses. I don't think it's under $500, though.
In that price range I bet you could get the previous Digital Rebel (300?something) on eBay without a lens. NOTE: Thanks, TC... I'm kind of blind.
