So the recently released version of Avid Studio has Magic Bullet Looks?

So for $169 I can get an editor that I'll probably never use (I have FCP and Premiere) but has $399 Magic Bullet included?

    Am I missing something here?

I think Avid is pretty desperately trying to cling to their market share. I also imagine (though this may be way off) that they make more on hardware than software.

I wouldn't write Avid off so quickly, either. Because it has a reputation of being less accessible to consumers, there are those who think "real editors" use Avid. Even though it isn't true, I keep Avid on my website and resume so I don't lose business.

Looks cool, bringing the AVID name to the consumer products line, as an upgrade path from the pinnacle stuff, which they've owned for a while. If the interface is like the real thing it would be interesting to learn on, unlimited tracks and all the plug-ins should make it a real value. No mention of if or how it handles 24p or multiple resolution/framerate timelines. Lack of pro codecs indicates its market position, but may be good enough for a lot of users. Very consumer oriented specs, No mention of DNXHD support. Finally a Final Cut Express level program for windows. This plus Lightworks free could be something to play with.

Even if you're a long time Mac FCP guy like me it would be cool to build a cheap windows box and slap an AVID sticker on it.

This looks like a pretty cut down version of the editing software, and be advised that avid uses avx format plugins - what works on an avid platform may well not work in fcp

but it should handle h.264 Prores 422 exported out of FCP, right?

I'm thinking I just might do my regular editing in FCP, export, and use the "Avid" just for Magic Bullet Looks....

No, Avid is windows and mac. I'm not sure if the deal applies to both, though.

Avid's pro line is MAC/PC their consumer line is PC only. Avid Studio is the consumer product. An update of Pinnacle.
