I been using 4.5 with service pack to constantly for almost a week and it runs great pretty much. I did have problems with when opening avid it would just close a few seconds later. But I reboot and it worked. Or I unplugged the dvx and that worked.

This may be redundant, but I'd like to baseline the discussion here with the following details.

    XP SP2 / Express Pro 4.5.1

JKL - I installed 4.5.1 editing went fine, but I have been having an issue capturing that I am just beginning to research. The Avid knowledge base has some discussions that I still need to go through. I am very reluctant to say that my issue is universal, as it (capture) is so basic. I'm sure it is a local problem -- and probably easily fixed.

Skettalee seems to be working with it just fine...

Initially in my first capture attempt after upgrading, the camera did show up in capture, as it normally would, capture lasted for maybe five of ten frames and hung. Windows poppped up a "Delayed write failed message", then Avid an error message pointing the "OMFI Media Files/Creating" directory. A host of errors follow, but they all are (likely) predicated on this fundamantal Avid -> OS -> Disk issue.

Currently, the camera is showing up in the OS's sys tray, but not in the Avid Capture. Audio is present through the PC when camera is playing out.
Avid error messages suggest using "Record on the fly" but attempts to do so result in the scenario described above and a continuous loop of error messages.

MichaelP, is this pilot error, or something else? Your advice is always appreciated.

BTW: Started yesterday by another user...

I use pinnacle Liquid Edition and had problems with SP2, I found that when I turned off the Firewall that is included in SP2 it fixed the problem. The Firewall is designed to stop pop-ups, it recognizes all pop-ups, and especially ones in programs because of all the trojans, gators, and spyware it stops all pop-ups and that is why so many people are having problems with all the different editing programs.

try the Firewall, if that doesn't work then remove and wait for a patch from Avid.

    Skettalee,
Can you capture from the DVX with 4.5.1/SP2?
If so, were there any other workarounds you followed?

    Got it...
Disabling the firewall didn't make a difference, but thank you bodaphoto for the suggestion.

I blew away the camera instance and started again from scatch.
    Also updated to WM10 (...unrelated?)
    Capture is working fine now.

    An update:

Just finished capturing several hours of material using 4.5.1 on XPSP2. Capture is now working better than it had in the 4.3 release! This is what I am seeing, your mileage may vary.

    - Much tighter control over the DVX operating as a deck. Jog/Shuttle/JKL controls work quickly and as expected.

    - Clean, perfect, long (20+minutes) captures; no dissappearing UI.

I thought my update got posted here, but the release in mid-october will be SP2 supported. Until then, it's a crap shoot.
