Help with figuring out a shoot...

Okay so I need to do a shoot in complete blackness. If that's not clear, basically everything we see is just solid pitch black with the exception of the selected lit objects and actors, it's sort of a dream sequence sort of thing. What are some good ways you can think of to pull this off?

dark room or video studio with walls painted matte black or curtains, use theatre or video type lighting with barn doors so that light is only being directed at the subject.

Used black muslin and really hard light from the left.

I've used a garage before. It's totally dark with the lights off, especially at night.
