Fooling around with the green screen, doing a Halo inspired video. gh13 handles the chroma pretty good.

Not sure what I was seeing, but it looked cool... I'd love to see someone key a busier background.. But still, looked good. =)

Keying aside, I'm pretty sure what I'm seeing, an Andrew Kramer tutorial rip off. Take a look at http://videocopilot.net/tutorials/energy/

Hating aside, I made a few of his elements that he provided me with a tutorial for, and made it my own thing. How is that a rip off?

It looks great. Don't worry sometimes people think with half their brain.

Thanks John for your useful comment... There's no hate from me. I just think that it's too close to the original, so obvious that I went looking to Kramer's site straight away. I think it's fine to take "concepts" from these tutorials but varying a few settings and colour correcting aren't exactly "taking it to a new level". Just my opinion.

    Anyhoo

What are your GH13 settings and how did you key this?

I have the 40mbs reliability patch (I shoot at 60i and use JES deinterlacer still though) and I can't seem to get good keys. The edges are always filled with blocky artifacty crap. Your footage looks better. Any hints?

I'm using the 50mb reliability patch but with a few things modified. 49,50 , native checked, gop 10 ( 1080 ). You have to make sure the screen is well lit though, spent a while adjusting them to get it just right.

That might be true, but the main element in that tutorial is what I was going for, and even with modifications to the main core element it still resembles similarities between them. I wasn't trying to " copy " him in any way I was simply trying to get the same " effect " to be used in my piece. You see TOP paid youtubers on youtube who copy EXACTLY some of the stuff he does and that just bugs the hell out of me.

agree with you there, and it bugs the hell out of me too. Think one of the worst offenders was an advert for the new AVP game that looks like it actually lifted the project file for speed particles, totally blatent with no attempt to cover it up.

I liked it...you did a great job matching the style of the official Halo live action videos.
