How are people logging video footage?

    Hi!

I'm starting to shoot a lot more video clips. I use Lightroom for stills. Is there anything to use like LR to select the clips to keep, preview them, rename, then be able to search them down the road?

I know the newer LR can handle some video, but I don't think it will play them or apply presets.

I'm new to GH-13. When shooting manually, I use the wheel to adjust shutter speed. The rear ISO button to adjust ISO. What is the quickest way to adjust fstop on RINGLESS APERTURE Panny lenses? I have gotten in to it via the menus but nothing as streat forward as the wheel or ISO button?

    Thanks

    Max

I heard LR3 previews video too. I think i might give it a shot and see if it can at least preview or thumbnail MTS clips. Would make organising a whole lot easier. I myself have a projects folder template that i copy/paste rename then dump my video into a RAW folder within it.

quickest way to adjust aperture is via the trigger finger dial on the front. you press it down to go between shutter and fstop.

Thanks for that tip. I was changing shutter with the wheel, but did not know pressing it changed the mode. my camera is from Japan, with Japanese only manual!

I love light room, if only they would let you apply presets and adjustment to our video!!!!

For logging I convert to ProRes in Final Cut Pro on my MacBookPro, then put clips on timeline and log. The conversion to ProRes takes a few hours but I don't care, my Mac does that at night when I'm asleep.

I am now still keeping all original mts files but now my drives are getting stuffed I'm considering throwing away the mts files after converting to ProRes and throw away the useless stuff in ProRes as well, in other words, trim the ProRes clips.

I bought LR3, it arrives this week, didn't know about video preview but will let you know.

LR3 allows you to preview video but I haven't found any use for it yet. But that might just be me. I have a totally different workflow for my photos and videos and prefer to keep the files separate except on a project-basis (copies of files, of course). If you want your photos and video files stored within the same library and directories, LR3 might work for you.

What I was asking, With stills, Lightroom lets me select which images to import, batch renaming if I choose, where to store them, and then later I can view the library and easily see the Shutter speed, ISO etc. I can go through a ton of photos quickly.

I have After Effects CS4. VLC, Splash Pro. I don't have a nice workflow like LR3 for stills. If I view all my clips in a playlist in Splash, I can't easily select or delete, or transfer the selected clips to a folder for later.

I'm on a PC so no FCP. Plus, before I bring every clip into a time line and "transcode" I'd like to see which are keepers.

A side note. I like the 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 ratio. Is anyone familiar with a video player that can on the fly (with out render) letter box for me? I've been doing this in AE, but its a slow process just for a pre visualization. (NEVER MIND, I just played with VLC and it has several crops that are real time!!!!)

    Thanks!

If only LR could work with these clips.

I have some great presets in LR for still. I may have to convert a 1080p clip to a tiff sequence sometime and let LR3 render every frame, then back into QT or AE for conversion.

You can call and store your files in any directory location you set to, separating video from photos if you like. Well that's how mine is set up. LR would more be used as a tool for quick importing, categorising and batch renaming, and previewing. well hopefully that will be the case with LR3.

Yes...but not as easily as it could or should be (constantly changing import settings to save different files to different locations). But please correct me if you have an easier method. I'd really like to be wrong in this instance.
