Hey Guys. Has anyone run into this problem before. I'm running XP pro With service pack 2 on a AMD athlon 1.5 GHZ system. Using A Texas Inst 1394 capter card. It Seems my DVX locks up with xpress pro but also in windows programs (I.E. JUST clicking the icon and getting a screen up. Pressing play and seeing a picture but a few secs later BAM..it freezes. Any help would be completely apreciated.
Thanks:
Steve

Hey wassup, happnend to me a few times.
by any chance if you have any other firewire gadgets (dv camcorder, external harddrive anything) try them out and do a lot of data copying) see if things freeze up.
SP2 has lil quirks here and there(what motherboard chipset do you use and is the chip intergrated or is it a pci firewire card?
big difference, hard wired(soldreed to motheroard like in a notebook/laptop) you have to go to motherboard bios and maybe set irq's and settings manually/ pci card you can movie it to a different slot(if you can open your case and use a phillips)
Your firewire chip is good(suppose to be the most compatable)
so dont worry about that.
Have you installed any new programs? Did it work before you installed them? (XP has a system restore utility if thats the case) you can use it to go back to your computer right before the new software install)
small chance you have a crappy firewire cable(very small)
i just read what i typed up and i sound like a smart ass(dont mean to) so if you have any questions about any lil thing up top just ask (this all might be(probably) small thing somewhere, so just keep bugging and asking(be prepared to waste a lil of your time)7 years Producer, Writer, Director & Comic Star for "The Lebroz James Show"

Dude, you did not sound like a smart ass. Your input was helpfull. I did figure it out. Turns out a USB card was conflicting somewhere deep and windows was not reporting it. So I just swapped PCI slots and that seemed to cure it. Thanks to all who looked and replied.
See Ya

yeah it happend to me too, its not really windows(its a combo of the motherboard and windows.
If in the future if your gonna add extra cards(like a video editing card or tv tuner, anything)...
There is a feature called apic(Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) it would be in your motherboard bios settings.
what it does is make more resources available for add on cards(also some cards have multiple devices on them) like sound codecs, video codecs, mpeg encoders, fm tuner(sometimes on one card)
the setting is as simple as auto or on/enabled or off/disabled(if and when you want to use it
peece n have fun
