Saw a very interesting documentary film called "The Corporation" made me really think about how we are spoon fed and marketed too by the big companies....and how there corporate agenda is the decline of our civilization.
Also made by fine Canadian filmmakers.

Siiiiiigh.
I used to get worked up about this kind of stuff.
Corporations have no power over you that you don't willingly give them. Everyone has the power to make up his or her own mind. It's only about choosing to use it.
If our civilization is in decline, it's because every member of it is a willing participant in that decline.
Maybe the filmmakers touch on that -- do they?
But blaming the "corporations" as a scapegoat is really just a mask for our own complacency.

Good point David, it really is the decision of the individual or individuals to make a stand on how they are going to approach each issue.
A good example from the film was in South America, some company had aquired the rights for all water (including rain water) in the town. The people were charged 1/3 of there income for water...this lead to wide spread chaos and an eventual turn around by the owning company to give the water back to the people of the town...but it cost like 3 lives and numerous riots and civil unrest etc to get it to that position.

That's not a corporation; that's a cartel.

The book 'Unequal Protection' by Thom Hartmann sheds a lot of light on that type of corporate behavior. That and worse is actually quite common in the developing world.
While the benefits of the corporate structure have contributed much to our prosperity and well-being, there are many things that are quite disturbing and need to be fixed. Many of the most beloved US leaders throughout our history have fought tirelessly against and warned against corporate dominance. Seems battle has been lost.

I just realized this is the 'Film Discussion' area, not the Cafe DVX for off-topic. Sorry to take it in this direction.

It's still a cartel. Which one was it?
