Hey guys, I'm thinking about either getting the
    Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f2.8

    or the much more expansive
    Canon 17-55 mm IS

Since I'll use the t2i mainly for video and mostly for documentaries... is it worth getting a lens with IS? or is that more for still photography?

If you want continuity of light between the varying focal lengths on the Canon you'll need to stop it down to around f5.6, making it quite slow.

If that isn't a problem go for it.

I do narrative work. Since the camera is on sticks most of the time, IS holds little importance.

That is just plain crazy talk, LOL. Amazing, I had never heard of a lens that could do that before this thread. Wow.

dear mr. oelerich, i'm happy for any kind of corrections and suggestions you might have! trolling is definately not appreciated!
I'm referring to a "constant aperture zoom lens" in my post above if this might be a more appropriate term...
