I was wondering if anyone knew if the XL2 was able to improve the exposure lattitude over the DVX's performance? Or is this a limitation of DV, and so both cameras will be equal?
Also, does anyone know if its focus is controlable through LANC?
These two features would be significant over the DVX.
Thanks,
Chico

I'm pretty sure It's got a LANC port, but I think the exposure lattitude is very very similar. With a 1/3'' CCD, it's hard to squeeze out much more dynamic range, sadly, espcially with the higher pixel count.

no sure, but i've heard that the XL2 had a better dynamic range than the DVX.

Howdy from Texas,
The LANC protocol does not allow for focus control. Therefore, no camcorder has focus control through LANC, including the XL2. Hope this helps,

actually its the complete opposite.. all LANC protocols allow for focus control...

Howdy from Texas,
Geez, talk about a brain fart. I think my mind must be completely addled from the elections. You could say I've been seriously distracted by the political arena and as a result this morning I can't think straight, or even see straight.
Jarred of course is quite right, LANC does indeed allow focus control and yes the XL2 has remote focus control through LANC.
What happened here is I saw the word "focus" but thought the word "iris." Honest, it's true! It's a very common question you see sometimes about iris control through LANC and in my burnt-out haze I was thinking iris control.
And it's too bad there's no iris control that way. But focus, um, yeah, sure, heh, I knew that all the time, right? Open mouth -- insert foot!
*Somebody* had too much too smoke this morning. Say, where's my lighter? Short term memory loss sucks!

I think Chris was thinking "iris" because there has been much discussion of that over on the XL2 Watchdog about using a remote controller for th iris to possibly overcome the not so popular "iris switch" that the XL2 has.. The cool thing is that the actual iris control may be available through firewire controllers that will be released 1st quarter of next year for Xl2. Or so the rumors go!
Of course we can only hope that the remote controller has a good iris wheel on it!
(I don't know anymore than that and I can't point to any proof of it either but I think Chris hinted about this over there)

Yeah, that's right, and a hint is all I could give because I don't know anything much more than that either! Supposedly there's a lot you can do through FireWire including iris control and so much more, but if you ask me, the third-party developers like VariZoom, Bebob etc. are behind the ball on this. We should have had some kind of FireWire controller two years ago at least! And there still ain't nothing out yet.
