DVFilm Epic ( http://dvfilm.com/epic ) will ultimately provide direct, real-time editing of all H.264 formats on any computer (even a low-cost laptop), in all the major editing systems, without transcoding or re-wrapping the file or having to make proxies.

Right now Epic supports only DSLR Quicktimes in Sony Vegas 9 and Sony Movie Studio 10.

The roadmap for further development of Epic is as follows, would appreciate any feedback on this, as it will help determine how we prioritize the work, in order from highest to lowest priority:

    1. DVFilm Epic I for Mac - works with the RT Extreme features in FCP 7 to allow direct real-time editing of DSLR Quicktimes, without Log and Transfer. This is in prototype stage right now meaning we have demonstrated that it can work but not yet ready for the public.

    3. Epic I for Vegas Pro 8 and older versions of Vegas Pro and Vegas movie studio. This is pretty close to Beta.

    3. Epic II for Vegas - handles .mts, .m2ts files as well as DSLR quicktimes.

    4. Epic II for Mac - handles stream files as as well as DSLR quicktimes for FCP 7. Perhaps works with iMovie as well.

5.... from there, what? Premiere Pro CS5 has its own support, however only on qualified platforms (multiprocessor, special video card) There could be an Epic plugin for Premiere that would provide broader support on all PC's, not just high-end. Is there a demand for that?

    6. Other formats, editing systems?

This is done now, see http://dvfilm.com/epic/mac

Also in the works is Epic for Vegas 10. Vegas 10 plays raw DSLR clips well enough now but gets bogged down with effects and transitions, etc. especially on low-cost computer systems.
