My First Footage with the Canon T2i - Color Correction Video

Let me know what you think, I just went out and made a test video, trying to use the DOF to the fullest potential. I also used Magic Bullet to color correct the footage but it doesn't seem as good as I thought it would, but then again, I just used a preset and rendered the video. I was too excited to see the potential of the camera.

Color Correction /= color grading.

Applying a pre-set is not color correction OR color grading.

Work on getting your exposures correct. Then work on getting the look you want in MB Looks WITHOUT using the presets.

The presets are a nice way to get close to a look you want, but until you understand all the pieces and parts, you're going to struggle trying to really understand things.

That looks awful if the PQ is no better on mine when it comes ill stay with my HV,I never C/C and dont want to start, its strange imo if the colour settiings dont work on these 550S without fiddling around all the time,anyway i have seen vg out of the box footage from them.

looks like you've over exposed the footage, then graded it and blown it out even more.

I over did a grade for a recent film, but i exposed correctly when we shot & it didn't look like your footage.

My 550 give lovely looking colour, i have not bothered with C/C,Setting neutral with the colour down one notch.

Unless you transcode to or have your video-processor interpolate to a better color-space than the compressed h.264 video stream off the camera, the results will be bad no matter what. You should either first transcode to a visually lossless codec like cineform or lagarith, or load your footage into VirtualDub where you can interpolate color space conversion directly in your filter heirarchy before running the color grading processes. Here's a short tutorial for this in VirtualDub.
