I formatted my p2 card and need to know my options for recovery. So far I have found in various threads these options.

    1. use a disk recovery tool I.E. (Nortans, disk Gene, data doctor, warrior etc)
    a. complicated
    b. requires #s steps
    c. No found solutions only ending threads

    2. Send your card to Panasonic to recover the Data.
    a. $260
    b. Takes a week

    3. Know someone who works for the FBI.
    a. life threatening

Any help would be appreciated. If you know of a tried and working solution (many complicated steps) please fill us all in. There are a lot of people who are suffering the same problem as I am I.E. Stupidity.

The only solution I've ever heard of that works is sending it in to Panasonic's service center.

People have had some luck getting the data off the card but no one has reported successfully restoring the video be editable. Someones got to know a clever trick.

Can Panasonic recover footage from a formatted card?
If so, that's a potential lifesaver. Is it, in fact, $260? I can imagine situations where it would be worth $260.
I'd like to be sure this is true, so that when a card eventually gets wiped on set I will know what my options are and how to proceed.... scramble to reshoot? or set aside the card and call the FedEx man!

It is my understanding that yes, they can (or at least, they have done so in the past). Contact the service center in New Jersey for details.

I imagine it works some of the time. Best prevention is rigorous data handling and backups... Also having a few extra P2 cards can make all the difference when you get to that moment where you need to shoot *now* and aren't sure if the card you're about to shoot to has been transferred already.

Simple workflow procedures can ensure you never get in a situation of not being sure if the card has been transferred.

When a card is removed from the camera, it must always immediately be write-protected. The data offloader should refuse to accept a card from the camera operator unless it is write-protected.

The write-protection stays in place until the card has been offloaded. When it has been successfully offloaded, the write-protection is removed. The card is then available for formatting.
