Is it possible to take the headphone output from a Samson H4n and plug into the audio input of a Canon HV30? I looked up the types of jacks and they appear to be same, but just wanted to double check.

I use an H4 with my HV40 and send the line out from the H4 to the Mic In on the HV40. You then have turn on the Mic attenuator in the HV40 menu. Then experiment for proper levels. I set the record limiter on the H4 so the HV40 doesn't get blasted.

Humn. Aint how I do it. Why would you want to use any attenuation in the HV40 at all. Don't you mean set manual Levels? If so then yes. At about 1/3 up from zero. Then you control the rest of the signal at the H4N. I use a 3.5mm mini splitter out from the H4N so I can use the Line Out/Earphone to send a signal and monitor audio there, rather than at the HV40, where the Levels have been dialed down.
