If I'm not lazy and actually get in line, I'll be going to a screening where he answers questions afterwards. I have no idea what movie we'll see (I hope it's The Aviator or something new!) but that's not so significant as him being there. Anyone have anything smart they'd ask him? I have no idea what to say.

ask him what the hell was the deal with Gangs of New York . >

I have not see The Aviator, but it doesn't look all that great(of course I am making presumption here),
Scorsese used to be one of the great movie gods for me(well, he still is, sort of),
I love Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, they are in my top 20's.
I hope to see more movies like Taxi Driver, Good Fellas from him.Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, hear the lamentation of their women&&

I liked Gangs of New York. Especially the beginning before the fight. That was intense.

I also like a lot of elements about Gangs of New York. I also think that today it's difficult for Scorsese to make the kind of films he'd like to make. Taxi Driver had a great script by Paul Schrader. A lot of writers today shy away from heavy material because the audience is mainly arthouse. I'd ask Scorsese about the challenges in realizing his films today versus those he faced in the sixties and seventies. That's pretty broad. Maybe focus the question on Gangs of New York and Taxi Driver. I don't know, this sounds like a golden opportunity.

I have mixed feelings on GANGS. I want to like it more than I do but somehow cant. Dont get me wrong; I liked it but cant see it being a BEST PICTURE (as was nominated). DAY LEWIS was superb in it though.

...Since he quit cocaine never been the same.
Itīs better to burn down than to fade away.
And ask him "you talkin to me?"

I think I'll just shut up and let him talk at this rate.
Anyhow, I'm curious what movie he'll choose to screen.

I don't think GANGS was best picture quality either. At times the film felt like a documentary masquerading as a narrative feature. Daniel Day Lewis was pretty awesome though.

When and where are you seeing Scorsese speak?

Ask him if he thinks film-makers lose their fire as they get older. You could add such directors as himself, Francis Ford Coppolla, John Carpenter and Walter Hill as examples.
It will take a large Hram to ask such a question.

What should I ask Scorsese?
