Now after reading all these posts and seeing all the transcoding steps etc........ am I doing something wrong? Here is my work flow.

    1. Take SDHC card from T2I and insert into Sandisk card reader.
    2. Drop folder into project file on the local HD.
    3. Open FCP 7
    4. choose file IMPORT from main menu.
    5. Drag .MOV file to timeline and play.

There is no transcoding needed and plays/edits and burns flawlessly.

Is this process like this only in FCP 7? Cause it seems that everyone else has this massive workflow involving compressor or 3rd party software. Is anyone else using this method?

You are certainly able to work with H.264 in FCP timeline. It just isn't that efficient and is very cumbersome. The preferred workflow is to convert to ProRes. For all practical purposes, ProRes 422LT is adequate. I would much prefer to deal with ProRes clips with any potential color correction or even effects application.

Good point, I did try to Log and Trans, but the message was that it wasn't compatible.... so do I need this download from Canon?

Ya your work flow is wrong and inefficient.

!. Take Sd card and put in card reader.
    2. Open FCP (with EOS-E1 Plugin installed)
    3. Go to log and transfer
    4. Make sure your destination folder is where you want the files to be saved
    5. Drag files over.

This takes almost about the same time as dragging the h.264 files over and converts them to pro res super fast.

I would transcode to ProRes using Compressor.

When I put the card in my card reader, it is not recogized as a mounted volume in FCP log and transfer or in the import files selection, What's up with that?

You need to modify the PLIST file in the 7D/5D Log and Transfer plug-in to work with the T2i. I cannot find the link at the moment but it is on this board and "the other board." Works like a charm. Just use L&T. But remember to change your pref because it will default to ProRes 4444.

I feel like a total Noob with using this T2i, so sorry if this is silly question, but what are the "THM" files that are created with each .mov. Get info says that they are a .jpg file, but preview will not open them. Are they some kind of thumbnail file and can they be deleted without affecting the .mov files?

they are actually metadata files for the .movs. not much really can read them, the E-1 plugin uses those files actually to read the timecode, notice when you play ur movie inside of ur camera it gives you info on what iso it is, what f stop your at? that's all read from the THM file. important if u use the E-1 plugin, or want to see ur settings inside of your camera.

also for non E-1 users, i suggest MPEG STREAMCLIP for pro ress transcodes. many many times faster than compressor even with quick cluster, with equal results.
