I had posted a thread before but i need a quick answer. Are 124min master or 80min pro tapes useless? Or can miniDV be recorded to tapes longer than 60 min without dropouts and errors? I would like to use these: PA-AYDV124AMQ so i dont have to change tapes during loger sets for the live band i film. otherwise 60 min will due for sets like 45min or so.

    Thakns

I'd stick with 60's.... the tape gets real thin at 124min.

I wouldn't use anything above a 60... you probably won't have problems, but you never know?

I believe PQ is the replacement for AMQ (which is what I use)...once all the AMQ stock is gone.

If they still have AMQ... go with those, I've never had a problem with them. They are the only tape I've ever used in my DV100b.

if u have Barry's book...there's a section in there to use another consumer camera as a "slave" cam so u can do continous shooting. the premise is that ur shooting on the dvx and when the 60min tape is done on the dvx the other consumer camera (cheap mini dv cam can be used especially if u have a dedicated capture cam) takes over the recording. SO essentially u can keep on doing this for as long as u need. Just load up another tape into the dvx while the other cam is recording. I duno how convenient that will be....but yah. they connected by firewire BTW.

Me, for longer shows, I connect a second small DV camera via a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire and set the DVX to "Chain" (not slave). It will start recording about 30 sec. before the end of the tape on the DVX.

So, you can do that and switch between both cameras over and over again!
